Natural Solid Nail Down WoodAll natural nail down wood flooring (prefinished & unfinished), regardless of width or length, that is one piece of wood from top to bottom is considered solid wood flooring. Solid wood flooring gives you a great opportunity for customization. Hardwood Floors are a stunning feature almost anywhere in your home and are suitable in almost everyplace, from lounges, hallways and bedrooms to kitchens, conservatories and studies.  Apart from adding value, they are also generally easier to clean, more hygienic and very long lasting.

The benefits of owning hardwood floors are summed up with the following:

  • Added value to your property

  • Clean and easy to maintain

  • Prevents dust allergies

  • High quality

  • Long lasting

  • Improves with age

  • Warm feeling

  • Versatile: can be stained, limed and finished with wax, oil or lacquer.

  • Can be installed over under floor heating systems.

It’s a simple thing: wood flooring introduces a definite stature and an undeniable charm to any room. And like your grandmother’s oak sideboard, wood floors, just by their nature, become close-to-the-heart and more and more valuable as time goes by.

Nothing lasts like a hardwood floorA wood floor transcends time. It hangs in there through puppet shows, parties, wrestling matches and muddy feet. It becomes part of the family, and of the home, the way no other flooring surface ever could.

Over the long run it’s possibly the least expensive flooring option.  Because of its renew-ability, hardwood flooring can actually cost a lot less than other types of flooring. If it’s not hardwood, you’re generally left with one option when flooring gets worn: you replace it. With hardwood, you have three options. Use a refresher to liven up the shine, lightly screen and re-coat with urethane to bring back the original luster or completely sand and refinish the surface to make your floor look brand new. Moreover, the urethane-protected surface on pre-finished flooring provides so much durability you may never need to choose any of these options. (But isn’t it nice to know you can?)

Reminiscent of the tradition of America’s pastHardwood flooring has stood witness to the history of this country – as part of our colonial past; as an early flooring choice for churches and courthouses; as a core part of homes in the mountains, in the desert, by the sea and in lofts and apartments with big city addresses. This same craftsmanship can now be blended with the advances of modern technology to achieve flooring that’s beautiful yet easy to install and maintain. You get the best of both worlds.

A variety of color, species and performances you might scarcely imagineFrom the color of light, natural Maple to the rich reds of Cherry, hardwoods bring the naturally diverse tones of nature’s palette into any room. Other colors and species include Oak, Ash, Walnut, Beech, Hickory, Brazilian Cherry, American Cherry and Merbau. Passport: Australia features Jarrah, Sydney Blue, Spotted Gum and Australian Cypress.

What kind of wood is the most durable?Generally, the harder the wood the more durable the floor. However, grain and color must be considered because light floors with less grain may actually show wear more than "softer" floors. The hardest woods for flooring include Brazilian Cherry, Merbau and Pecan while American Cherry and Walnut are softer “hardwoods”.

Why Choose Wood?Wood Floors are an Investment, and add value to your home, thus decisions concerning them should not be taken lightly. Seek a wood floor professional, with an established business, reference list of satisfied customers, and a port-folio you can view past work

Wood flooring is timeless. It enhances the warmth of any home and complements the decor of any room. Like a fine piece of furniture, wood flooring increases in value and becomes more beautiful with time. In a national survey, 90 percent of estate agents said that houses with wood flooring sell faster and for more money.

Wood is a natural resource, renewable and recyclable. Buildings, barns, ships and other structures made of wood often find a second life in wood flooring, cabinets, walls and ceilings. And leading allergists agree that wood floors are the perfect choice for a healthy home.

The state-of-the-art technology and almost limitless choices of today's stains, finishes, styles and designs make wood flooring one of the most practical, easy-care and versatile floor coverings today. Maintained properly, wood flooring should never have to be replaced.

Enhance the warmth and beauty of your home with the natural elegance of hardwood flooring.

Cons of Laminate Floors

NoiseLaminate flooring does not absorb sound well and can have a hollow sound when you walk on it, particularly in high heels. Using an acoustic underlay will help reduce the noise, but it still may be a nuisance. Laminate also lacks the visual warmth of other materials, including hardwood.

Buyers Know It’s Not Hardwood. Although laminate floors will increase a home’s value compared to wall-to-wall carpeting, hardwood floors will increase it even more. Buyers generally can tell the difference between laminate and hardwood or stone, and they prefer natural materials.

Design OptionsAnother drawback is that the look of the flooring is set by the manufacturer. Color and sheen cannot be customized so choices are limited, and a buyer may not like your selection. Hardwood floors can be sanded and re-stained.

WarpingThe materials in laminate flooring are moisture resistant, but the floors can warp in high-moisture areas. There is a debate over whether it should be installed in kitchens and bathrooms or other rooms that are exposed to heavy water or steam. Most manufactures warn that laminate flooring will be damaged by standing pools of water. This is true of other materials as well, but hardwood floors may be able to be sanded and refinished. Laminate floors would have to be replaced. The material is still relatively new, so it isn’t clear how this type of flooring will hold up over time.

Before You BuyHomeowners thinking about buying laminate floors should visit a few stores before making a decision. Talk with a store associate and research the different manufacturers. Some companies use different materials or construction methods.

Price is not always reflective of the quality of flooring. Taking into account the total price of the flooring project is also prudent, according to the World Floor Covering Association. Additional costs can come from such items as furniture removal and replacement, demolition and disposal of the previous floor covering, sub floor preparation and product delivery.
